Time Resolved - PIV

Progressing the Essential Time – Space Correlation

Dantec Dynamics was the first company to introduce Time Resolved PIV systems based on practical Nd:Yag lasers and a new high performance, high speed camera.
Today Time Resolved PIV is an affordable option for research in fluid mechanics, thus adding the essential time-space correlation to our experimental fluid mechanics world.

Extensive application experience

The amount of application experience with Time Resolved PIV is extensive, both in water and air. These applications range from classical flows over cylinders to fairly large area convective flows. Mixing studies in water, jets and many other relevant flows have also been studied.

Based on the feedback from our customers, Dantec Dynamics has progressed the technology and can now offer the most advanced and comprehensive Time Resolved product programme available on the market.

These are just some of the elements in our product portfolio:

  • Special Time Resolved double cavity lasers with enhanced performance at short time intervals.
  • Support of lasers up to 100W in dual cavity designs
  • Specialised high power 200 Hz lasers for water applications
  • Support of almost any Time Resolved camera available on the market, giving you more flexibility in your choice of camera
  • Cameras with specialised performance, such as very low inter-frame time and frame rates over 30,000 Hz. The Time – Space Correlation is constantly being improved
  • Available in 3D Stereoscopic set-up
  • The latest version of DynamicStudio comprises an easy to use database management system for the huge amount of data acquired. The acquired data can be further processed using state-of-the-art algorithms. Alternatively you can customise the processing through an integrated MATLAB link.
  • Comprehensive installation experience in a wide range of facilities
  • The SpeedSense cameras, allowing for Time Resolved PIV measurements on very large areas

DynamicStudio Compact TR-PIV system

Dantec Dynamics provides the smallest and handiest Time Resolved Particle Image Velocimetry system on the market: DynamicStudio compact TR-PIV system.

This new innovation has been made possible with our new generation of extremely compact RayPower lasers. Delivering an efficient up to 2 Watt@532 nm, they are ideal for a range of time resolved PIV measurements in applied engineering in fluid mechanics.

  • The DynamicStudio compact TR-PIV is suitable for air or water flows, typically up to 5 m/s
  • Easy to use, making it ideal for less demanding research applications
  • Well suited for educational purposes in fluid mechanics teaching situations (Laser class 3B version available)
  • Easy to fit to flow rigs of different dimensions

The DynamicStudio compact TR-PIV system combines the new RayPower lasers with Dantec Dynamics’ sensitive time resolved imaging SpeedSense cameras. User control and data manipulation is executed through DynamicStudio. The new system is not only available at an attractive price – it is also upgradeable to most of Dantec Dynamics’ other imaging solutions.

The system supports many fluid dynamics applications in both water and in air flows, and due to its handy size it’s easy to fit to flow rigs of different dimensions. It is also well suited for educational purposes in fluid mechanics teaching situations.

Measurement of whole-field power spectra

Acoustic driven flows with very small amplitudes and acoustic stimulated flows are two other examples which may further stimulate the amazing insight opened up by Time Resolved features. These insights may prove fruitful in applications such as:

  • Spray injection where the first few fractions of a second make a significant difference to engine performance
  • Turbulence research – the study of Taylor scales becomes possible
  • Coherent structures such as burst in boundary layers where a series of events can be captured
  • Unsteady flow behaviour can reveal transition and deep stall, which are crucial in aerodynamics
  • Flow induced flow studies in hydrodynamics may improve the safety of marine structures
  • Dynamic study of vortex shedding may be related to aero-acoustic interaction

Whatever your application, Dantec Dynamics Time Resolved PIV solution will provide a unique insight into the essential time – space correlation.
