Polymercharacterisation and Proteicharacterisation GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatographie) /SEC (Size Exclusion Chromatographie) Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) is a type of liquid chromatography similar to the HPLC. The separation here is purely due to the size (more precisely, the hydrodynamic volume) of the molecules in solution. Other names are Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC). When working with an aqueous solvent, also the term gel filtration chromatography (GFC) is frequently used. Typical applications include all types of macromolecules such as the Polymer fractionation of synthetic polymers, biopolymers (eg polysaccharides) and proteins. The GPC will identify the detector Molweightaverage (Mn, Mw, Mz), polydispersity, viscosity η, Conformation and radius distribution (Rg, Rh) of the polymer sample.
